Vanliga träd

Pictures from yesterday's walk on one of my favourite mountains! We have had only sun and hot weather for a long time and it is  very dry in the ground.

Bilder från gårdagens promenad på ett av mina favoritberg! Det går hur bra som helst att gå i markerna nu, det är jättetorrt, det har inte regnat sedan midsommar.

Down there on the other side of the water, in the middle of this picture, is our house!

Där nere på andra sidan om vattnet syns faktiskt vårt hus!

I took a picture of this pine last year on a foggy day. I think it is ugly but interesting. The two top branches are still alive.

Denna tall fotograferade jag visst i dimma förra året. Visst är den förskräckligt ful - men intressant! Och den lever fortfarande, de två övre grenarna är gröna.

Defoliating

My ficus' annual defoliating - before and after. It took me several hours! And it does not look like the same tree, does it?

Birch and pine

Looking good right now: my birch - which does not look to have had any problems with my severe pruning of the roots -  and below: my Kevin Willson-pine.

Ser fräscha och friska ut just nu: min björk och min Kevin Willson-tall. Björken verkar inte ha tagit skada av den hårda rotbeskärningen tidigare i våras!

The pine is still standing totally stupid in the pot but that is because of the roots, they are still long and one-sided. My hope is to have roots grow on the right side and to be able to repot it in a good angle in a good pot in the future. Below is a picture from last year.

Tallen ser ut att vara planterad väldigt knäppt i krukan vilket beror på rötterna som fortfarande är liksom långa och ensidiga. I framtiden hoppas jag kunna sätta den i en snygg och riktig vinkel i en snygg och passande kruka!

Two elms

Two of my elms as they look today. Only these two I care to try and keep in shape, all the other elms I let grow more or less freely.



Två av mina almar idag. Det här är de två som jag bryr mig om att "frisera i kanterna" - alla de andra står och växer mer eller mindre fritt.

Two garden trees

I would like to show you my red maple. The special thing with this tree is that it was planted last year in my garden, that is: it was moved from its original growing place in this size! And today I think I can say that the move was successful. It was growing in a garden in the nearby village and the owner wanted to take it away - so I asked can I take it? And with his permission I did so. Or rather: with the help from my husband and our car and trailer. With the roots we also brought around a cubic metre of soil!!!

Vill gärna visa en bild på min blodlönn. Det märkvärdiga med detta träd är att det flyttades hit ifjol vår, i den här storleken! Först nu vågar jag säga att flyttningen har lyckats. Bladen har ju slagit ut och alltså har trädet klarat vintern. Det stod i en trädgård i byn och ägaren ville bli av med det - då frågade jag om jag fick ta det. Maken hjälpte mig att gräva upp och frakta hem det på ett släp bakom bilen (det hängde ut åt alla håll) och minst en kubikmeter jord följde väl med också...

And the tree behind our house (shown earlier): is a horse-chestnut! It doesn't really belong in this part of Sweden but I brought some nuts from Skåne in 1999. The climate close to the building is good enough for the tree. (Today the climate is good enough for anything,  tropical plants or cactus...) The tree is around three meters high and the picture is taken from the balcony, that is why you can see it from above.

Trädet bakom huset har nu slagit ut ordentligt: det är en hästkastanj. Inte egentligen härdig här omkring - får se hur det går i framtiden. (Just idag är klimatet dock tillräckligt varmt för kaktusar eller vilka som helst tropiska växter...) Jag tog med mig kastanjerna från Skåne 1999. Trädet är säkert tre meter högt, bilden är tagen från balkongen, därför man ser det uppifrån.

In the heat!

Today my friends from the bonsai society have visited me. We had to protect ourselves from the sun, it has been unbelievably hot! Almost thirty degrees C in the shadow, and you can just guess how hot it was in the sun... We were eight people defying the heat working on our trees.

Idag har bonsaisällskapet varit på besök. Jag fick användning för det gamla partytältet en gång till: inte för att skydda oss från regn och rusk utan för att skydda från solen!!! Det har varit superhett, man vill ju inte klaga på värmen, men lite jobbigt är det. Närmare tretti i skuggan, gissa hur varmt det var i solen... Vi var i alla fall åtta stycken som tappert  jobbade på med våra träd!

The one yamadori pine that caused the largest bonsai discussion was this cascade. It has a nice part in the middle but the start of the tree is a problem: there is a thick round shape from which the trunk grows out in a slim rounded bow-shape, to me it looks a little like a hose. I have had many suggestions on what to do with this tree. For example I should let the highest branch grow up and cover and hide the area where the thick and the slim parts meet. Today I got these suggestions: repot the pine in a new angle so it would not look so circular? -

Av mina yamadoritallar var det nog denna som startade den längsta designdiskussionen. Den har en snygg kringelikrok på mitten, men början är besvärlig: en tjock klump och en smal bågformig "slang". Hur göra det bästa av detta? Tidigare har jag fått rådet att låta en gren växa upp och täcka/gömma övergången mellan det smala och det tjocka. Nu fick jag dels rådet att plantera om tallen i en annan lutning och på så sätt skulle inte det cirkelformiga uppfattas som lika cirkelformigt -

- and the other suggestion was to repot the tree upwards instead and let the underside show, and take away the end of it.

Is it the thick round part or the hose-like rounded slim part that is the ugliest? Or the combination? And what shall I do with the tree? I don't know.

Är det det tjocka runda som är fulast eller det smala slangformiga? Eller kombinationen?  Hur jag ska göra och vilken lösning jag ska välja? Vet ej.
