Little things

These little things are standing indoors so they are my pleasure now as the winter is still going strong outside! I thought spring was on its way, but then we had a bad snowstorm yesterday, and it is snowing again at the moment. So we will have to wait.

One ivy and two pomegranates.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate.
Granatäpple.

Indoors, still.

Worked on my variegated ficus today.

And my ivy.  I would want the low branch to become stronger on this one.

Pomegranate with flower buds, maybe they are not visible in the picture?

Here the flower buds are more clear to see. Now when I see the picture I think this pomegranate will be repotted on an angle the next time, so that both trunks will be leaning to the right instead of one to each side...

Here is also a picture of my hollies. They have been overwintering in the garage, I took them outside today as it is pretty warm (10 degrees C). They are full of flowers!
I love the shiny green leaves, and one time many years ago I thought I would make bonsai of them... What a joke. I hardly want to repot them or pick up a fallen leaf from the soil, because they hurt my fingers...

Spring!

The month of March: I repot some of my indoor and garage trees now and then.

My pomegranates (above and below) - they are small and thin but at least they are green and alive!

A cotoneaster that I have also kept in the garage.

Hanibal loves my zelkova trees... That is: he eats them! Maybe that is because there is no grass outside yet...

Looking down: on our house from a hill, today. The sunshine has been fantastic!

Looking up: when I turned my eyes up to the tree-tops I saw a willow tree full of catkins!

...and these on an alder: (below)

Spring is coming along, and tomorrow I'm going to Umeå for a bonsai meeting!

Bonsai in the old stable

In the village close to where I live is a happening once every summer called "Speaking-in-the-mill-day". It is music and entertainment in an old mill, and usually some small art exhibition in the stable beside. This year it was bonsai instead of paintings in the stable. As you can see the walls are partly old and partly new, painted white, and they make a very nice backgound for bonsai!

I brought the trees that looked "the least bad" at the moment. I got compliments from surprised villagers that have never seen bonsai at all... And then there was one plant rights defender, a person that feels sorry for the poor bent trees and want to liberate them and take them back into the forest. I thought we had "informed away" those opinions by now, but obviously not!

Pomegranates, february

Today: small light green leaves on all my pomegranates!

This one has three trunks, of which I want to take away one, but have not yet decided which one.

And if I  get inspired some day I might do some wiring on these trees...

Too cold for anything

I was supposed to go to town today for this years first bonsai-meeting, but we cancelled the meeting because of the cold weather. This is my ski trail away from our house, but it was too cold for skiing also...

Not so warm in our house today, but at least it is better than outside...

The fantastic sunrise this morning: the mountain makes a shadow in the air above it!

The cold room where I have kept my pomegranates became too cold, so I decided it is time to take them back in the house and let them start growing.

...

Can I abandon my blog completely, just because it is winter, dark and cold and nothing happens with my little trees? Here is a small status report. All trees are still sleeping - except for these two pomegranates: suddenly today they show small green leaves coming out! I keep them in our unheated vestibule, and I think they will have to stay there for some more time. This winter has so far been quite tolerable - I mean not as cold as normal - maybe that can be an explanation for these early signs of spring.

In the beginning of january the forest company were around our house to take down trees - and this is how close the machine came to my sleeping-bonsai-corner! (Maybe you can see the red tapes in the right of the picture.) I was very nervous that something would happen!!! But luckily no tree fell in the wrong place, and the big machine did not cross my marking tapes.
The fearless moose from last winter has not been around either. Maybe it didn't survive the moose-hunt, or it has moved to another place...

Though the winter has been warmer than normal (so far), we are not without snow! This picture is from my "bonsaigarden", today.

Carry out carry in

I took a picture of a pomegranate that I never cared to put in front of my camera earlier. It is shaped in a loop - probably against all rules, but I just had to see how it would look. And I am not going to change it, only let it grow for some twenty years or so, so in the end maybe it can become a bonsai!

It is now the carry out-carry in-season. I try to take the plants out at least on days when i am free from work - and free from fever and illness which I am not today. This picture is probably from easter, when we had really warm and nice wheather, like summer. After that it has again been much colder (down to -7 degr C one night) and today when we woke up the whole world was white again! My outdoor trees are still in the ground:

Now the snow has melt away again and soon, when I feel a little better, I will start to consider taking upp the trees from the ground...

Ficus with variegated leaves and my forest

My forestplanting (the only one): a pomegranate. I just cut off the long shoots today and bent down some branches.

My variegated ficus: it has been left alone for a long time. Today I have cut off all leaves and wired the branches! It took me several hours and I was almost giving up after half the time, but finally managed to finish the started work.

Puh!

Now that I see the picture I wonder if it would look better without the first branch, growing more to the right?
